Service Location

Service Location

TJA Civil provides a comprehensive and reliable service location service. Service location involves the use of sophisticated equipment such as EMF (Electromagnetic Force) Locators, Sonde Locators and Ground Penetrating Radar to accurately locate underground or otherwise hidden assets and services such as telecommunications infrastructure, high and low voltage power cables, gas pipelines and water mains. Once located, these assets are marked so that any future excavation or associated works can be completed without risk of damage to existing assets.

EMF Locating

EMF Locating involves inducing an electromagnetic force into an asset or service such as a copper telecommunication cable or water pipe. Once this force has been induced, an EMF Locator is used to detect the signal. Detection of this signal enables the alignment and depth of the asset or service to be accurately detected so that in can be marked on the surface using line marking paint. These marks are then used as a guide when performing excavation works around these assets and services. This type of locating can only be utilized when the asset or service is made of metal that allows the electromagnetic force to be induced.

Sonde Locators

Sonde Locators are small radio transmitters that can be attached to a fiberglass rod. This rod is then inserted into a service pipe such as underground telecommunications or plastic water ducts. An EMF Locator can then be used to detect the signal coming from the Sonde, allowing alignment and depth to be accurately verified and marked. This type of locating is useful for locating non-metal assets such as underground PVC pipes when there is no copper cabling present i.e. optic fibre infrastructure and Poly-Ethelene gas lines.

Ground Penetrating Radar

Vacuum Excavation provides a risk free means of safely exposing underground cables and pipes. No machinery tracking back and forth means minimal ground disturbance to the site surrounds, results in a minimal footprint on the work area and minimizing restrictions to access and egress.
